I have given my full support to the Police in upholding law and order and combating terrorism. In doing so, I have argued for more Police Officers to be allocated to our local district and opposed the closure of local Police Stations including Hillsborough, Moira, Dunmurry and Dromara. I continue to have concerns about the substantial reduction in the number of Police Officers on our streets. This has resulted in less Police patrols and increased complaints about a failure to respond when crimes are committed. Local Police Commanders are doing their best with reduced resources but I will continue to press for an increase in both mobile and foot patrols to enhance the capacity of the Police to respond when there are instances of criminal activity and anti-social behaviour.
